One of the primary reasons that cruise destinations like Dubai, Cape Town and indeed the plethora of ports in the Caribbean, invest in cruise infrastructure is because studies show that cruise passengers who like a particular port of call will return for a longer land-based stay in future.

This is particularly true of cruise destinations with impressive beaches, like The Maldives, where we stayed after having first visited by cruise ship.

Choose a Beach with a Lot to Offer

It all starts with the beach you choose. There are countless beaches around the world, and they all have unique things to offer vacationers.

For example, if you’re looking for an authentic beach experience, but you want to make sure there’s plenty to keep you entertained, consider renting an apartment on the beach in Dubai. JBR is one of the most popular areas for tourists because it’s home to the largest inflatable water park, it’s a haven for water sports enthusiasts, and it’s where you’ll find the world’s largest Ferris wheel.

There are beaches that are perfect for sunbathing, busy beaches, secluded beaches, and even nudist beaches! There really is a beach for everyone, as long as you do your research before you book your stay!

Do More Than Just Put on Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a must when you are vacationing on the beach. The sand and water are extremely reflective, which means you can get burned much more quickly than you would in town. However, if you’re going to spend day after day on the beach, you have to do more to protect yourself.

Other skin-protection ideas include:

Wear long-sleeved, lightweight shirts

Wash your clothes with UV-repellant laundry detergent

Wear a large brimmed hat

Protect your eyes with UVA- and UVB-protective sunglasses

Sit on the beach under an umbrella

Avoid direct sun between the hours of 10am to 3pm

You may find body parts that don’t usually burn will burn on the beach. Make sure you use sunscreen on the tops of your ears and feet, and use lip balm that contains sunscreen.

Rethink Your Purse or Beach Bag

In a perfect world, you could leave everything in your hotel when you go to the beach, but chances are, you’ll need to bring a towel, something to drink, and at least a few dollars, just in case.

Placing items in your purse or a beach bag are simple solutions, but if you’re spending day after day at the beach, you may want to rethink your bag situation.

Consider using a dry bag to ensure the waves don’t get your things wet. You can also find waterproof capsules, and even shoes with hidden compartments for money, which are both much better than using a purse!

Wear the Right Shoes

What comes to mind when you think of beach shoes? If you don’t spend a lot of time at the beach, the wrong kind of shoes may come to mind.

Flip flops can be hard on your feet if you’re planning on doing a lot of walking on a sandy or rocky beach. Instead, consider wearing water shoes. Although they may be less fashionable than flip flops and sandals, you won’t have to deal with sore, injured feet.

Have a Plan for Rainy Days

The perfect beach vacation is spent under the sun as the waves lap up onto your feet. Unfortunately, very rarely do vacations work out that way. Instead, you’ll likely have to deal with at least one rainy day. Knowing that’s the case can make for a better vacation.

Instead of getting down and depressed because the weather isn’t cooperating, make a plan for things to do when it’s raining on the beach. A few ideas include:

Plan a spa day

Go to dinner and see a movie

Go to a show or a concert

Shop at a local mall

There’s also nothing that says you can’t go to the beach anyway! As long as the storm isn’t severe, walking on the beach in the rain can be a lot of fun!

A beach vacation is unlike any other kind of vacation you can experience. That can be a bad thing if you aren’t properly prepared. Make sure your trip is unforgettable for all the right reasons by following the advice listed here.
