Virgin Voyages keeps the surprises coming with new DJ and karaoke concepts

Almost every detail of Scarlet Lady announced thus far has either pushed back on cruise ship norms or thrown them overboard entirely, and the latest announcement of a vinyl DJ club and private karaoke bar are no different.

Joining an already hugely varied and unique line-up of entertainment options aboard Scarlet Lady, the first ship to launch in the new Virgin Voyages fleet, will be a Voyage Vinyl club and The Groupie karaoke, gaming and movie lounge.

Voyage Vinyl will offer personal ‘listening stations’ for guests and will feature music from various eras and genres, as well as special DJ sets by Virgin Voyages’ guest DJs.

As part of the announcement of Voyage Vinyl, Virgin also revealed multiplatinum DJ MK (Marc Kinchen) and Grammy-nominated duo Sofi Tukker will join previously announced DJs Mark Ronson and Boy George.

All of of the ship’s DJs will offer occasional exclusive performances on the pool deck or in port at Virgin Voyages’ private cruise destination in the Caribbean, The Beach Club at Bimini.

For passengers wanting to belt out a few tunes of their own, The Groupie karaoke, gaming and movie lounge is available. Designed as a sound recording studio, the space puts a modern twist on Japanese karaoke rooms, which traditionally are small, private social spaces.

In the same release announcing Voyage Vinyl and The Groupie, Virgin Voyages also revealed that it has teamed up with UK-based musical events agency White Label to develop the background music soundtrack for the ship and The Beach Club at Bimini.

Virgin Voyages said there will be an emphasis on electronic music, reflecting the millennial demographic for whom Scarlet Lady has been designed, but for cruise traditionalists, fear not, Virgin has confirmed other genres, from cheesy pop to classical, will also be incorporated.

Virgin Voyages is building four near-identical cruise ships – Scarlet Lady will be the first

Scarlet Lady is Virgin Voyages first ship in an eventual fleet of four. She is scheduled to begin sailing from Miami in April, 2020.

She will be adults-only (18 and older) and feature a “vitamin sea” concept, which focuses on passenger wellness, relaxation and fun.

Public spaces will include a tattoo studio, outdoor fitness center and extensive spa facilities. Cruise fares will cover gratuities, including on alcoholic drinks (most non-alcoholic drinks are complimentary) and spa treatments and her cruise itineraries in the Caribbean will include overnight calls in Havana.
