Celebrity Edge is a unique cruise ship in several dozen ways, an impressive feat in a highly competitive industry of more than 300 mainstream cruise ships, now she has yet another defining feature to add to the list.
She is the first cruise ship to have a full-length documentary made about her construction by the cruise line itself and not a broadcaster or production network.
While shows like Mighty Cruise Ships and The Cruise have proven highly popular for their insider’s look at cruise ship operations, Celebrity Cruises’ ‘The Making of Celebrity Edge’ is the first to be made by a cruise line to the same professional standard.
“The response to the transformational Celebrity Edge has been just incredible. So many people want to know what it took to design, build and launch this transformational ship,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises.
“’The Making of Edge’ special will give viewers a behind-the-scenes view and many stories that have yet to be told by so many who were involved in its creation. We are so thrilled to share this exclusive insider’s perspective with the world,” she added.
Celebrity teamed up with award-winning production agency Artex Productions to make the film, and brought in the ship’s ambassador Nate Berkus, an American interior designer, author, and television personality, to host and narrate the documentary.
It’s essentially a half-hour-long advert for the new Celebrity Edge, but it doesn’t feel like it, because this extraordinary ship is so fascinating and cutting edge that Celebrity Cruises is able to let her tell her own story, through some of the key members of the 12,000-person team involved in her build.
The documentary follows the build process all the way from steel cutting right up to her arrival and naming ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Celebrity Edge is 129,500-gross tons, the first of a trio of 2,900-passenger sister ships. While Edge is homeporting in Fort Lauderdale, sailing week-long eastern and western Caribbean cruises, the second vessel, Celebrity Apex, will be homeported in Europe.
For the summer 2019 season, Celebrity Edge will cross the Atlantic and cruise a range of seven- to 11-night Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona and Rome.
